SRF 71R Iconoclast
Veritech
BACKGROUND
The IHE saw no real need for Mecha until after the SDF-3 left for
Tirol. After the experimentation in current mecha trends with the
Shock Divers and Crash Hounds, Dr. Gilles Vaudell decided that
one of two new mecha would be the definitive mecha for the Mordecai's
legions. The mecha in question were the SRF-71 Iconoclast
veritech and the Vautomer Jackal. After extensive tests, the
Iconoclast won out.
The mecha as designed along the
lines of the 20th Century SR-71 Blackbird reconaissence aircraft.
the fighter mode has slight cosmetic differences: It is wider and
longer. The R type fighter is an exact duplicae for the Blackbird
at a glance. This is the only Veritech that does not have either
a Guardian or Battloid mode. Instead, the SRF-71R transforms into
a Meson Accelerator Platform(MAP), which resembles a Battloid
torso on the nose section of a Blackbird. In this mode it has
access to a reflex shield and a Meson Accelerator. The mecha was
produced ten years after the Third Robotech War and production
ceased approximatley eight to ten years after that, with the
introduction of the SRF-5000.
The Iconoclast was to be Mordecai's
first line of defence, and thousands were produced in their ten
year service. The mecha were the spearhead of every battle the
IHE took part in in that time. They were phased out in the early
2050s as the Artificially intelligent SRF-5000 Iconoclasts became
available, but some are still in service with private
individuals, and as backup mecha.
The Iconoclast was to be the
ultimate in veritech technology. The SRF-71 had the smallest
recorded Energy Weapon of Mass Destruction ever built using
Robotechnology, and the Type R is still seen occasionally in
front line units that do not have access to a Monitor or do not
want to rely on such a large ship for heavy firepower. All
Iconoclasts are painted Black, with Red insignia markings.

- Depleting the M.D.C. of the
sensor head will knock out long-range communications
(reduce to 60 miles/96 km range), long-range radar
(reduce to 10 miles) and laser targeting (-1 to strike)
- Destroying a Hand will reduce
the Main Gun's range and damage by 1/2
- Destroying a Wing will also
destroy the corresponding arm and one engine pod,
reducing speed by a quarter. Any dodge roll in
athmosphere will be at -4 due to difficulty to control
- Depleting the M.D.C. of the
main body will completely shut the mecha down.
- See Equipment for Notes on
Reflex Shield
NOTE: The SRF-71 Series
Veritech incorporates the Southern Cross' laser resistant ceramic
armor, so laser weapons do only HALF damage. This does NOT
include any other energy attacks such as particle beams or ion
blasts, nor does it help against explosives.

Fold Drive has a range capable of bringing the fighter
between galaxies, as long as there are supplies enough
aboard to maintain a pilot. |
WEAPON SYSTEMS
- ZCX77 Meson
Accelerator. Fires Heavy subquantum particle
beam from the hands of the Mecha in MAP mode.
- Primary
Puropse:Assault
- Mega-Damage: At
Full power, does 5D10*1000 damage to everything
in its path. A small blast does 4D10*10 damage.
- Rate of Fire:
One fulkl power blast every 30 minutes. A small
blast may be fired every four turns.
- Payload:
Unlimited.
- Plasma Lances.Two
are mounted under the nose, useable only in
Fighter/Guardian modes.

- Rate of Fire:
Equal to pilot's hand to hand attacks.
- Payload:
Effectively unlimited..
- Optional Use of Missiles.
Four hard points are mounted on the mecha, two
under each wing. Each can carry one long range missile,
three medium range, five short range, or ten mini
missiles. To keep the fighter balanced, each wing must
have the same missiles mounted. (eg. you could mount two
mini missile pods, and two long range missile racks)
Mini
Missiles:
- Primary
Purpose: Assault
- Mega
Damage: Varies. Any Missile
except Plasma may be mounted.
- Range:

- HAND TO HAND COMBAT:
The SRF-71 can engage in hand-to-hand combat if
absolutely necessary.
- Punch does 2D6 M.D. in
Battloid
- Kick does 2D6 M.D. in
Guardian/Battloid
- Body Flip/Throw does
2D6 M.D.
- Body Block/Tackle does
1D6 M.D.
- Stomp does 1D4 M.D.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT
- Reflex Shield.
Concentrated on the hands of the MAP, the shield provides
an additional 300 MDC which must be depleted before any
damage may be applied to the mecha. The shield recharges
at the rate of 30MDC per turn. The shield may not operate
in any turn that the Meson accelerator is fired.
- LASER-RESISTANT CERAMIC
COATING: Invented during the construction of Southern
Cross mecha, this coating scrambles laser tracking and
reduces laser damage by half (lasers ONLY).
- RADAR: 500 Kilometre
range. Can identify and track up to 20 targets
simultaneously, and track a further 50.
- BACKUP RADAR: 10 mile
(16 km) range. Can identify and track up to 20 targets
simultaneously.
- RADIO COMMUNICATIONS:
Wide band and directional radio and video telecast
capabilities. Range is 600 miles (945 km) or can be
boosted indefinitely via satellite relay.
- LASER COMMUNICATIONS:
Long-range, directional communication system. Effective
range: 100,000 miles (157,500 km).
- Meson communications. Real
time communications within five light years, with
communications available out to 15 light years, with a
one second time lag per light year beyond five.
- COMBAT COMPUTER:
Calculates, stores, and transmits data onto the cockpit
computer screen, heads-up display (H.U.D.), or the
pilot's helmet display. Also, an AI system provides
information on tactics and advice, giving +2 to initiave.
- TARGETING COMPUTER: AI
system which rates offensive capability of enemy units
and provides likely evasive patterns based on speed,
bearing, and displayed tactics of target. Gives +2 to
hit.
- LASER TARGETING SYSTEM:
Can track any single target within 100 km.(10,000 km in
space)
- MOTION DETECTOR AND
COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM: 80m range. Sounds an alarm
and red light warns pilot of impending collision and/or
immediate target.
- TELESCOPIC OPTICAL
ENHANCEMENT: Range to Horizon with 150X Zoom, plus
Infra-Red, Starlight, and Electromagnetic emmissions.
- EXTERNAL AUDIO PICKUP:
100m range. A sound amplification listening system that
can pick up a whisper 100 metres away.
- HEAD SPOTLIGHTS: 150m
range with Terran daylight intensity.
- EJECTOR SEAT: Removes
pilot from vechicle in case of emergency. The chair has
no survival equipment, as the pilot will be weraing a
shock diver.
- SELF-DESTRUCT: A last
ditch effort to prevent the capture of a Veritech unit
(usually preceded by the pilot's ejection from the
Veritech) is self-destruction. Explosive damage at
2D10*10 to everything within 25m. A dodge roll of 8+(with
no bonuses) is allowed.
- HEAT AND RADIATION SHIELDS:
Special shielding prevents the penetration of
life-threatening heat and radiation.
- INDEPENDANT OXYGEN AND
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM: Built-in tanks provide one month
of continuous oxygen. With the special recycling systems,
this may be extended to four months. Use of a Shock Diver
suit extends these figures by 100%. A stasis system can
bring a pilot to a state 90% cellular halt. This can be
sustained for three years.
- Fold System.
MC-144MT fold drive allows travel of 66,666 light years
over three days. The drive must recharge for a day before
subsequent use.
